Dear Law Librarian:

Cross-posted; please excuse duplication.

We at SIMA, Inc. (a lawlibrary services and libraryautomation
software company headquarted in Northern Virginia) are re-
surveying the lawlibrarian community about the use of the Internet
in law libraries. Our previous survey was three years ago, and
times have changed. We've added a question at the end of the
survey to address the new ASP technology. We know how busy
you are, and we thank you in advance for whatever feedback you
can provide! The results will be published.

Please feel free to answer whichever questions you can or to
expand on any of the above questions in your response. We are
NOT interested in your name or the name of your employer, and we
will NOT use that information.

1. Please identify the TYPE OF LIBRARY in which you work:
Private/Corporate, Government or Academic?

2. HOW MUCH TIME PER DAY do you spend on the Internet, on
average?

3. What are the PRIMARY PURPOSES for your use of the
Internet?

4. ARE YOU SATISFIED with the results of your use of the
Internet? If not, why not?

5. FIVE YEARS from now, what percentage of your working day do
you think will be spent doing your work on the Internet?

6. Do you view yourself as a THIN CLIENT (in the sense that you
are the enduser without "applications" and you are using the
"server"the Internetto obtain information resources)?

7. Is your library a VIRTUAL LIBRARY (i.e., a library with few
printed materials that relies primarily on electronic information
resources) or a TYPICAL LIBRARY with books, serials, etc.? If you
operate a virtual library, please tell us about your operation.

8. Have you been able to obtain information via the Internet that you
COULD NOT OBTAIN FROM ANY OTHER SOURCE? Explain the
circumstances briefly, if you wish.

9. How many EMAILS do you receive every day? Do you read
them, or delete them, or respond to them?

10. Are you involved in INTERNET TRAINING for staff employees or
professionals in your organization? If so, to what extent?

NEW QUESTION

11. Do you use, or are you considering using, an Application
Service Provider so that you can access and run library software
via the Internet? If you are using an ASP, please provide details
and your assessment of how well the system is working.

Thank you very much!
