CCH Online (Securities) indexing defect

Dear Fellow Lawlibbers -

Recently, I was asked to retrieve a SEC Release, and first went to our CCH
Online service, the complete Federal Securities Library. (This request was
further complicated by the fact that Lexis had not input the entire document
in its files.)

The release in question was 33-5049, Acct'g Series #115, 35 FR 4121
(2/17/70).

However, when I searched under the 33 Act cite I found nothing.
When I searched under the Federal Register cite I again found nothing. I
called CCH to ask why I was unable to find this release, since when we
purchased this subscription I had been repeatedly told that the SEC
documents files were comprehensive, unlike the Transfer Binders which
contain selected coverage.

Later I received a call from CCH telling me that the release was there, but
could only be found by using the Accounting Series cite. when I asked why,
I was told, "well, that's just how we do it."

It seems that this is a defect in the indexing, since this Release ought to
have been found with any of the 3 cites.

I felt I'd pass this along to this group for two reasons, first, to alert
you in advance that CCH does not always index a document under all of its
cites, and secondly to possibly encourage the editorial folks at CCH to
rethink this practice.

Thanks,

David Leone
