Thanks for all the replies to my very unscientific poll on average number of
hours billed per month by firm reference librarians. I received 35
responses. The results are obviously very general as the numbers don't take
into account firm size, staff size, and administrative workloads. Billing
practices varied as well: some billed for things like case pulls and simple
document retrieval and others didn't. Note also that my question (and hence
the replies) didn't differentiate between client billable and non-client
billable (e.g.. business development) time.
Nearly everyone expressed a lot of interest in knowing what others were
doing, so we all would all be interested in hearing about these differences
should anyone care to elucidate.
