POSITION TITLE: Electronic Resources Librarian, Loyola Law School, Los
Angeles

REPORTS TO: Computer Services Librarian

Purpose of Position: Provide software support to law students in the
Computer Lab, instruct law school students in use of computer hardware
and software, provide coverage of help desk in the Computer Resource
Center (CRC). Weekend, evening, holiday coverage of the CRC required
within a regular work schedule.

Direct Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise and schedule activities
of student workers assigned to CRC projects

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. In cooperation with the Computer Services Librarian and the Computer
Resource Center Assistant provides coverage of the Help Desk in the
CRC. This work will entail regularly scheduled evening and weekend
hours. Help Desk work will include, but is not limited to, providing
one-on-one assistance to students in use of word processing and other
law school supplied software, assisting students in using law school
provided email, assisting students in applying for network, laptop and
dial-in connections.

2. In cooperation with members of the Law School Information Technology
Department, provides desktop support for the computers in the CRC.

3. Assists law school staff in use of Audio-Visual equipment in the CRC
Training Rooms. Trouble-shoots problems with Audio-Visual equipment and
helps to provide maintenance for such equipment.

4. In corporation with other members of the department and law school,
organizes training programs and provides training, both formal classes
and informal to students in the use of computer technology.

5. Works with Westlaw and Lexis in the maintenance of vendor owned
printers and supplies.

6. Develops documentation and guides, including bibliographies,
pathfinders, and web pages, to assist law school students and staff with
the use of library computer-based resources.

7. Works with Library Technical Services staff to maintain OCLC and the
Library's online catalog system from Innovative Interfaces.

8. Works with Library Public Services staff on use of Electronic
Reserves system and the scanning of documents for that system.

9. Works with Innovative Interfaces to provide Library staff training in
use of integrated online catalog and implementation of new software
modules as they become available. Works with Innovative Interfaces to
maintain Innovative supplied equipment and software.

10. Works with the Acquisitions/Electronic Information Librarian on
acquisition of electronic library resources and making those resources
available to library patrons.

11. Works with relevant library and law school personnel on the
development and upkeep of library web presence, including the online
catalog and law school web page.

12. Communicate and cooperate with Law School Information Technology
Department, with Law School Physical Plant, and with library's computer
suppliers and vendors as needed.

13. Assists in enforcing library and law school policy relating to the
CRC, computer hardware and peripherals, and computer software.

14. Assists the Computer Services Librarian in the development of formal
and informal long- and short-range plans for the use of computer based
library technologies.

15. Maintains current knowledge of developments in the library and
information field with special emphasis on automation and technology and
their application locally.

16. Performs other duties and undertakes specific projects within the
scope of this job description.

17. Other duties as assigned.

II. Qualifications/Requirements

Knowledge: Modern office practice and procedure; knowledge of and
ability to master common word-processing and spreadsheet programs,
particular Microsoft Word and Excel. Needs to be familiar with
microcomputer hardware and technology.

Skills and Abilities: Good interpersonal skills and a friendly
disposition. Position calls for direct, personal contact with a large
population of students and staff. Must be able to work as a member of a
team and with a minimum of supervision. Must be able and willing to
adapt to fluctuating workload and able to set priorities; provide
attention to detail; provide prompt attention to and prioritization of
problems. Ability to keep clear and current records and statistics.

Education and Experience: Masters of Library Science, M.L.I.S., or
M.S.I.S., or equivalent degree required. Experiences with
microcomputer help desk operations preferred. Substantial knowledge of
computer technology, especially microcomputers, databases and networks
required. Demonstrated effective oral, written and interpersonal
communications skills required. Demonstrated knowledge of web page
design and maintenance, HTML, and graphic design tools, preferred.
Strong organizational abilities required, as well as the ability to work
well with others in a team-oriented environment.

Responsibility for employees: Provide any necessary training or
supervision of student CRC workers

Complexity: Good organizational skills are required to manage
multi-faceted workload, which is often both unpredictable and urgent.
Candidate must be able to resolve conflicts, which may arise among
students and/or staff and to design and implement policies for
effectuating both short and long-range plans.

Responsibility for assets: Moderate to substantial. Controls computer
related inventory. Prepares records, which may be subject to review by
others or are used by others for management, professional action and
decision making. Must use established purchase order policies.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
