Wow! I got a lot of requests to share the answer, so here is the info. you sent me:
Boss Tweed was actually William Marcy Tweed (1823-1878) who, according to Britannica's website, was a bookkeeper and volunteer firefighter, later a legislator in New York. Someone else told me that he later died in prison ...
Harrison Tweed was actually a prominent New York attorney and partner at what is now Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCoy
(McCoy of "the real McCoy"? - just kidding)
and the quote attributed to Harrison Tweed is actually "I have a high opinion of lawyers. With all their faults, they stack up well against those in any other occupation or profession. They are better to work with or to play with or to fight with or to drink with, than almost any other varieties of mankind." There is also an ABA award named after him...
Note to self: bone up on 19th & early 20th century American History =)
My attorney, to say the least, was impressed with this list.
Thanks very much, everyone, for you help!
Have a great day!
