Depending on the outcome of the jurisline.com v. Lexis
lawsuit, all this may become moot anyway. Contingent
also on the smoke-and-mirrors escalation of dot.com
values: to the extent that the profit is not/will not
be in transaction fees, only the researcher's time
will be at stake.

For the moment, the buffer is the academic who
performs the leisurely bibliographic search at no (or
little) cost and then writes about it for the benefit,
among others, of the professional.

As for the flat-fee professional user: who is harmed?
Is it pedantic to care about costless waste?
