At least with respect to small enterprises, D&B
ratings are so outdated, and so dependent upon
information voluntarily supplied by the owners, that
it is of little help in spotting credit problems until
much too late. Perhaps even when the Chapter 11
petition is about to be filed.

That is not unique to D&B. I have known of
multi-lawyer law firms in real trouble that continued
to be highly rated by M-H, in one case right up until
the disbarment of a partner.
