available at this rate. The rate is good for the meeting dates as well as
the (3) days prior to the meeting and the three (3) days after the meeting.

Reservation requests received after March 18, will be accepted on a space
availability basis and subject to rack rates. Please specify the U.S.
Government Printing Office when you contact the hotel. Note: Individual
cancellations will be accepted up to 72 hours in advance of arrival. If
cancellations are not received at least 72 hours in advance, the full amount
of the stay (room and tax) will be assessed. Departure dates can be changed
up to 72 hours prior to arrival. After check-in, there will be a $50 charge
for early departures. The hotel will eliminate this charge if the guest
room is resold for the vacated night. Check in time is after 4 p.m. Check

The DoubleTree Islander Hotel is located on private Goat Island, in Newport
Harbor. It is minutes from the historic part of the city and a full-service
property offering the best location in Newport. The hotel features 253

The Council meeting has something for everyone. Focus groups, plenary
sessions, open forums, and a chance to express your views on the future of
the depository program. After the sessions are over, you want something to
do. Don't worry, in Newport, you can explore colonial neighborhoods, shop
along the cobblestone wharves or spend the day hunting for antiques.
Spring brings renewed life and Newport bursts forth with beautiful colors to
celebrate the season. Trinity Church (which boasts one of only two ‘wine
glass' pulpits in the country, Tiffany windows and an organ that was played
by Handel) has a beautiful spring tulip display on the grounds. Twenty
minutes away is Bristol, RI and the Blithwold Mansion with over 2000
daffodils scattered throughout the estate. Spring also is a great time for
pre-season bargains. Stroll along the Cliff Walk with the crashing surf on
one side and the beautiful architecture of the mansions on the other. Play
a game of tennis at the hotel or rent a bicycle or moped and explore the
historic streets or peddle around Ocean Drive with its 10 miles of rugged
Atlantic coastline. All of this awaits you in Newport.
Newport is situated in an incomparably beautiful location on the Atlantic
Coast. It has a rich history, extending back some three and one-half
centuries. Before you start exploring Newport, you may want to visit the
Visitor Information Center, 23 America's Cup Avenue and see a 16-screen
audio-visual movie on Newport, pickup brochures and publications on all
attractions, events, tours, etc. The Visitor's Center is within walking
distance of all hotels and the shopping areas. Not only can you have fun in
Newport, but you can attend a great meeting and provide the Council and GPO
ideas for delivering the Depository Library Program into the 21st century.
The Council meeting is open to everyone and there is no registration fee.
Please review the Preliminary Agenda on the FDLP Web page at
<http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/dpos/s2000cou.html> and in the January
15, 2000, Administrative Notes.
As you can see, each year we try to find something new and exciting to
educate and inform you. See you in Newport? I hope so. More detail
information about the happenings in Newport will be listed on GOVDOC-L and
LAW-LIB about a week before the meeting.
