We cut a large number of subscriptions in 1991- 1993, and left them
(labelled) on the shelves as you have. In 1995 or 1996 we started
reviving many of them, on demand. Then the ones that lay dead with
nobody asking to renew them got scrutinized: we tossed many but kept a
few that we thought would be valuable as research-starters even if they
were outdated. We still have a few of these on the shelf
even though we have recently moved and need all the space we can get.

That's a complicated answer, but it was a complicated process.
