REFERENCE LIBRARIAN FOR ELECTRONIC SERVICES

Southern Methodist University's Underwood Law Library is seeking a Reference
Librarian for Electronic Resources. This is a new position within the
library's reference department. The position will assist the library in its
commitment to provide the latest electronic information resources to the
library's user community.
Responsibilities: coordinate (with other reference librarians) the
evaluation, testing, and implementation of electronic information resources;
provide instruction to students, faculty, and staff in the availability and
use of electronic resources; create guides and other instructional tools for
electronic resources, including both library electronic resources and
Internet resources; promote the use of electronic resources by students and
faculty; assist with content and design improvements of the library's web
site; and work scheduled reference hours at the reference desk, including
one weekday evening and occasional Saturdays.
Requirements: Master's Degree in library science or a J.D. from an A.B.A.
accredited law school or a computer science or related degree; ability to
work effectively with others; excellent teaching, advising, and public
speaking skills, including the ability to communicate with non-technical
users; experience with a broad range of software related to libraries and
the Internet; knowledge of HTML, with knowledge of programming languages
related to web design and knowledge of graphics software desirable; and
knowledge of legal bibliography or the willingness and capacity to learn.
SMU is located in the heart of Dallas, close to major transportation and
high-tech industry. Texas has no state income tax; benefits are generous.
