    NMFS publishes new book.

The National Marine Fisheries Service, NOAA, has published a new book on
the science relating to fish population dynamics.
The title is The Raymond J. H. Beverton Lectures at Woods Hole,
    Massachusetts.
The book was transcribed from videotape and edited by NOAA scientist and
former ICES General Secretary Emory Anderson, and covers the
three-lecture series that was given at six locations across the U.S.A.
in 1994 by world-renowned fisheries scientist Raymond Beverton of
England, who coauthored the classic text On the Dynamics of Exploited
    Fish Populations.
The three lectures cover diverse topics that are pertinent today:
Lecture 1, "Man or Nature in Fisheries Dynamics: Who Calls the Tune?"
discusses natural and man-made causes of fish population declines.
Lecture 2, "Fish Population Biology and Fisheries Research," examines
the close relationship between fisheries biology and marine biology,
focusing on fish reproduction and the sustainability of fish stocks.
And Lecture 3, "Reflections on 100 Years of Fisheries Research," looks
back upon the history of fisheries research and highlights many of the
important figures in the field and their contributions.
The book contains 161 pages, black and white, with 92 figures and 33
    photographs.
The cover is hard bound, covered with dark blue imitation leather with
    imitation gold lettering.
Copies are available from the U.S. Government Printing Office
    (http://bookstore.gpo.gov/) for $33.00 apiece to U.S. addresses ($46.20
for foreign orders), and for similar (often a bit lower) prices from
    Federally authorized resellers.
Sales begin on 30 January 2003.
The ISBN is 0-9722532-0-3. The GPO jacket number is 791-811.
