    But will that URL be the same in the future? Other publishers might come
    up with many different such schemas. The DOI is designed to be
    persistent.
    Think of it as an electronic equivalent of the ISBN, only on steroids.
    The DOI is an implementation of the CNRI Handle System. With a simple
    plugin or by using a dedicated proxy server, browsers can recognize
    a DOI and resolve it to its corresponding URL(s), leading to the online
