<underline>ASFA-FAO Training Course for Cooperating Latinoamerican
Countries, Valparaíso, (Chile) March 18-23, 2002.

</underline>For the first time in South America, a course was held
between ASFA-FAO and the IFOP (Chile), on the processing and input
methodology of scientific documents produced by each country, with a new
very friendly software: www-ISIS-ASFA.  

The 10 participants were mostly librarians from the following
institutions: IMARPE (Peru), CIP (Cuba), Inst.Ocean.Sao Paulo and
Univ.Feira de Santana (Brasil), Inst.Inves.Pesq.-Univ.República
(Uruguay), UNAM (Mexico), INIDEP (Argentina) and our Chilean guests from
IFOP, the Univ.Valparaíso, and  Serv.Hidrogr.y Ocean.   

The Instructors from ASFA, Roma (Richard Pepe, Luciana Lombardi, Helen
Wibley and Stefka Kaloyanova), all excellent professionals that gave in
Spanish, a first level course with carefully prepared excercises and
manuals.

Thanks to the strong support for Latinamerica specially promoted by Dr.
José Cort (FAO-FIDI), the recent acceptance of new country members such
as Uruguay, Brasil and Perú, the new software developed, and our
committment, very soon the research scientists from this southern region
will heavily increase their international visibility through the ASFA
Data Base.

We also had the chance in a first informal meeting, to gather the
Latinoamerican Group of Fisheries Information Specialists looking forward
to strenghen regional cooperation.

((º> <underline>Curso del Sistema de Información en Ciencias Acuáticas y
Pesqueras ASFA-FAO para países cooperantes de Latinoamérica, Valparaíso,
(Chile) 18-23 marzo, 2002 - www.ifop.cl

</underline>Por primera vez en Sud América, se realizó un curso
organizado por el Sistema de Información en Ciencias Acuáticas y
Pesqueras ASFA-FAO y el IFOP(Chile) sobre un nuevo programa muy amigable
WWW-ISIS-ASFA para procesar e ingresar los trabajos científicos (tesis,
libros, artículos de revistas, etc.) producidos en cada país.

Participaron profesionales bibliotecarios, biólogos y técnicos de
instituciones como: el IMARPE (Peru), el CIP (Cuba), el Inst. Ocean. Sao
Paulo (Brasil), el Inst.Inves.Pesq., Univ.República (Uruguay), de la UNAM
(Mexico), del IFOP, la Univ. de Valparaíso, y el Serv.Hidrogr.y Ocean.
(Chile), y del INIDEP, Mar del Plata.  

El Grupo de instructores de ASFA, Roma (Richard Pepe, Luciana Lombardi,
Helen Wibley y Stefka Kaloyanova),  excelentes profesionales  que
prepararon un curso práctico de primer nivel.

Gracias al fuerte apoyo de ASFA para Latinoamérica promovido en especial
por el Dr. José CORT (FAO-FIDI), con el reciente ingreso de países como,
Uruguay, Brasil y Perú, el nuevo software desarrollado, y nuestro aporte,
en breve los trabajos de todos los investigadores de esta región tendrán
mucha más visibilidad internacional a través de la Bases de Datos ASFA.   

Se realizó también un Primer Encuentro del Grupo Pesquero Latinoamericano
de Especialistas en Información Documental con miras a crear fuertes
vínculos de cooperación regional.
