Hi, Everyone -- As you might know, I'm working in a (far)off-site
branch of the University of Georgia. At present I have Ariel receive,
only. Sometimes I get things sent to me by UGA via Prospero, which I
think is really spiffy. I asked the Doc/Del people up there about
Eric's news, and got these bits of explanation, which were of interest
to me.

Hi Liz,
Whether you choose to have either one or both is truly up to you. I'd
say look at the Prospero website FAQs. I think Ariel is so
well-established that those who have it are not going to give it
up--and you can get a level of support from RLG that Prospero just
cannot afford to give (Eric Schell alludes to that often on his
website). I think we'll need both software packages here [UGA], because
the
new version of Ariel is not perfect and we currently have Prospero set
up to work in conjunction with Ariel. (I don't know of any libraries
who have given up Ariel to go exclusively with Prospero 2.0--there
may be some--but I only know about mid- to large academic libraries for
the most part).
To throw another wrench into the mix, a lot of ILL software packages
are including some type of scan/deliver mechanism which works in yet
another way (case in point ILLiad), so any one system is not the answer
to everything. Were we to get ILLiad, we'd still need to keep Ariel,
and probably Prospero....
However, Prospero *is* open source and Ariel does cost!
