    Ruth,
Not really any concerns. If someone outside of librarianship found the
archives they would likely get bored to death or find a few gems. I simply
didn't realize search engines could find the archive. Good advertising in a
way. Thought people should be aware of it.

I would like to hear more from folks about successfull access to the online
Ency. of Ocean Sciences. Their web page said one would get "initial" access
to the online. What does that mean? Other than offer something to folks at
your library, get them hooked, and when the publisher starts charging for
online you are in a bind.

Hi, Jan: When the IAMSLIC Executive Board discussed the choices for the
new listproc software for the IAMSLIC e-mail list, it was emphasized that
members wished to be able to access archives of the e-mail discussion
list. There were two choices for providing archives access: 1) allowing
easy Web access to the archives (via an "open" URL at the University of
    California, Davis) or 2) providing text-based, command-driven
very-awkward limited access. The IAMSLIC Executive Board chose to go with
the method allowing IAMSLIC members the easiest method of access.

So indeed, the IAMSLIC e-mail discussion list is searchable by any search
engine which goes deep into webpages. Jan: Do you have particular
concerns about this search engine access to the archives of the IAMSLIC
    e-mail discussion list?
