Hello,
One of our scientific staff is looking for statistics on the world's coastal
population now and in 2050. He says he recently saw these figures somewhere
but can't find them now. Both he and I have been searching various sites
including the World Resources Institute, UN Population Division) with
minimal success. The figures I have come across pertain mostly to the
current coastal population. One source predicts a global coastal population
for 2025. Any assistance in finding reliable references would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks very much,
Lois Loewen

By the year 2000, nearly half the world's coastal population (477.3 million
people) is expected to be housed in urban conglomerations along Asian shores
(WRI, UNEP and UNDP 1994).
