Costs of information acquisition and delivery have skyrocketed in the past decade, stealing monies away from essential tasks and services causing academic library administrators to look for external funding for research and service projects. As library leaders peruse funding solicitations from foundations and federal, state, and local agencies in the new century, they find that funders are requiring evidence of larger collaborations, better uses of technology (from digitization to online user services), and assessment of learning outcomes in project proposals.

In developing strategies for future funding initiatives, academic librarians will find that knowing where to look for financial support, how to work collaborative--and with whom--in this competitive funding environment will be key to success.

Join us in this exciting session which will take advantage of the virtual environment for the collaborative development of fundraising strategies and partnerships! Martha Crawley, Program Director from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Nancy Allen, Dean of University of Denver Libraries, and Greg Foxworth, Director of the Office of Sponsored Projects, Texas A&M University, as well as other experts from around the country will be with you participating in the session as we mine expertise on issues such as the funder's needs & wants, and how to set up large collaborative efforts and strategies for successful funding proposals.

    Discussion Topics:

    I. Mechanics of putting together a large collaborative project

II. Changing priorities of funders with respect to innovation, technology and collaboration

III. Strategies for faculty participation: grant teams, grants administrator, etc

IV. Campus initiatives: ideas for working with academic faculty and centers on campus
