    Dear Colleagues:

On behalf of Vice Provost Pat Turner, Vice Chancellor Janet Hamilton,
Associate Vice Chancellor Bob Franks, and myself--cosponsors of the new
MyUCDavis Web portal project--I am writing to ask for your participation
(and that of your students) in this project's pilot phase, which will get
underway Fall Quarter 2000. We are looking for a core group of instructors
who will be teaching at least one course Fall Quarter 2000 or Winter
Quarter 2001 and who would be willing to incorporate the MyUCDavis course
management functionality into their course plans.

As a participant in this pilot group, you will be able to access MyUCDavis
and make use of a number of resources, including the following:
    - Classroom information (computer labs, general assignment classrooms, etc.)
    - Your course web pages
    - Your e-mail messages (via a secure built-in e-mail feature)
    - Course management tools (course disk space, course rosters, e-mail lists,
    news groups, chat rooms, etc.)
    - Course Web page builder and templates
    - Library resources
    - News and information personalized to your interests and needs

Later this summer, once the pilot group has been identified, we will
provide training both for instructional faculty and for departmental
technical support coordinators (TSCs). Moreover, ongoing technical
assistance will be available to all participants for the duration of the
    pilot phase of MyUCDavis.

If you are interested in taking part in this pilot group and incorporating
the MyUCDavis course management functionality into your courses for Fall
Quarter, Winter Quarter, or both, please contact the MyUCDavis project
manager, Joyce Johnstone, at jmjohnstone@ucdavis.edu. You can be assured
of an interesting and edifying experience, and you will be contributing to
a system that could well become a cornerstone of the UC Davis community.

Thanks very much for your consideration.

    Jack Farrell
    University Registrar
