JULY 2000
ANNOUNCEMENT
RE: Appointment of the Director for the new Instructional Technology
and Digital Media Center
I am pleased to announce that Professor Harry Matthews has accepted
my invitation to serve as the Director for the new Instructional
Technology and Digital Media Center (ITDMC). His appointment to this
position is effective July 1, 2000. The Center is being formed
through a realignment of existing services from within the Division
of Information Technology including the New Media Centers, design and
graphic services, web design and development, photographic services,
and media production. As the first director for the Center,
Professor Matthews is responsible for guiding the development of the
new center and a campus infrastructure to support various forms of
faculty services in instructional technology and digital media.
Professor Matthews, a professor of Biological Chemistry in the UC
Davis School of Medicine, is a talented scholar of national
distinction, and a pioneer in applying technology to teaching and
learning. He is an experienced campus citizen, having been a member
and chair of the Committee on Academic Personnel, chair of the
Graduate Group in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, and chair of the
Committee on Elections, Rules and Jurisdiction. He has also chaired
and served as the academic senate representative to the Academic
Computing Coordinating Council (AC4) since its inception two years
ago. In addition, Professor Matthews is a frequent presenter at
UCD's Summer Institute on Technology in Teaching (SITT). The new
Instructional Technology and Digital Media Center, slated to be
operational by Fall 2000, is fortunate to have someone with Professor
Matthews' insight, commitment, and experience in this important
leadership position.
I look forward to working with Professor Matthews as we build the new
ITDMC, providing a single, cohesive service-oriented entry point for
faculty to a broad range of instructional technology services.
Please join me in welcoming Professor Matthews to his new role.
Sincerely,
John Bruno
Vice Provost
Information and Educational Technology
