This week, someone broke into my locked library carrel and stole my
computer:
Hewlett Packard Omnibook 5500CT
Pentium 120 mhz
32 mb RAM
1.3 Gig HD
Floppy Drive
33.6 US Robotics MOdem
external Microsoft mouse
NB: The thief did not steal the CD-Rom drive and the power cable that
both usually go with the computer, so the sale price would have to be
below $500. Software-wise, the computer has Windows 98 and MS Office on
it. When you open the start-menu (in my configuration, the bar in at the
top of the window, not at the bottom), the last line says "Log Off Adrian
Van Ho."
So, if anybody has offered you the machine for sale, please send me the
information. And if you could keep your eyes open, that would be cool,
too.
Should the thief feel sorry at his/her exploits and return the computer
(and my dissertation and other files) anonymously to my departmental
address, or send me an e-mail, or leave me an anonymous telephone message
on my home phone (my number is in the telephone book) as to where and
when I can retrieve the machine (and my files), I will not press charges.
Promise.
Sonja
