RE: Recruitment of Faculty Assistant to the Provost for the Environment

A position as Faculty Assistant to the Provost for the Environment is available
in the Office to the Provost, beginning no later than January 3, 2000 and
continuing through August 31, 2000. The position will be a 50% appointment,
with the possibility of renewal for a second year by mutual agreement.

The Faculty Assistant for the Environment will assist the Provost in
implementing plans for the Environmental Initiative. Specifically, the Faculty
Assistant would:

* Act as a liaison among the Provost's Office, the Administrative Coordinating
Council for the Environment, the Environmental Steering Committee, and other
campus units charged with academic planning, infrastructure and space
development, and resource allocations.
* Represent the Provost on the Environmental Steering Committee.
* Provide administrative support for the Administrative Coordinating Council
for the Environment and the Environmental Steering Committee.
* Facilitate the coordination of recruitment and appointment activities among
the deans of the divisions, schools, and colleges.
* Act as an administrative contact person for individuals being recruited or
other outside parties, including corporations.
* Assume additional responsibilities as needed to advance campus initiatives in
the area of the environment.

Candidates must be tenured members of the UC Davis ladder-rank faculty and
should be skilled in working with faculty and administrators to ensure
effective collaboration and coordination in achieving a shared goal. The
position carries an annual stipend as well as additional compensation for
summer service for academic-year faculty.

candidate would like to provide.
