RE: Recruitment of Director of the UC Davis Washington Center
I am writing to announce the opening of a position for the Director of the UC
Davis Washington Center, located in Washington, D.C. The Center administers
an undergraduate academic program that combines courses, independent research
projects, and internship assignments in the Washington area. It also includes
the UC Davis Washington Research Program that provides faculty, faculty groups
and graduate students assistance in carrying out research that draws upon
resources in Washington, and assists in the development of new grant
opportunities.
In consultation with the Vice Provost--Undergraduate Studies, the Director is
responsible for development, administration, implementation, and evaluation of
the UC Davis Washington Center and programs; establishing policies and
priorities; coordinating graduate and faculty fellows; supervising a staff of
three (full and part-time employees). The Director reports to the Vice
Provost--Undergraduate Studies.
Candidates must be tenured members of the UC Davis faculty and should have the
following qualifications:
1. strong academic record and demonstrated interest in teaching and mentoring
student research;
2. ability to work effectively with campus administrators, faculty members,
students, and staff;
3. capacity to develop and implement programs in consultation with the campus
administration, faculty, and students;
4. strong skills in writing and public speaking.
The Director of the UC Davis Washington Center will have a 50% administrative
appointment with the payroll title of Faculty Assistant to the Vice Provost and
a 50% departmental teaching appointment. The position carries a standard
administrative stipend, 2/9 summer compensation, and limited research travel
expenses. The duration of the appointment will be three years and the position
will be available July 1, 2000. It is expected that the new Director will
assume the responsibilities of the appointment no later than the beginning of
the fall quarter 2000.
