I think this issue was visited briefly some time ago, but I'm just now
hitting it.
I have a G3 desktop (i.e.. beige) and I'm using Premiere 5.1 to edit via
ProMax's DV card and drivers. I've replaced the startup drive with a 20g IDE
and I'm now starting up from a 1g internal SCSI disk. So I've got plenty of
fast room to spare. Digitizing from, and playing out to a DV deck has had no
problems for 8 minute captures.
However, I want to control a Hi8 deck and use old Batch Capture lists to
recapture video footage using the new DV codec through a sony DVMC (also from
ProMax). I have been able to control my time coded Hi8 tapes via ProVTR back
when I was using the VVS, however now that I'm trying to split the computer's
duties between the cables, I am getting a "dropped frames" error at about 9
seconds.
When I turn off deck control altogether (which isn't a solution... I
just tried it) I get about 15 seconds before I get the error.
What do I need to do to maintain my time code accurate serial control to
Hi8 while using DV and firewire to capture the video?
