Good point. I Can't say how many lines Digital 8 actually displays but in
real time comparisons with a VX 1000 and a D8 700 the quality difference for
casual use was not that much different. Of course the 3 chip was better and
would be a necessity for anything like pro use...but the 1 chipper was
impressive...especially at the < $800 price tag. We are purchasing some of
the Digital 8 units for our students to use and expect the quality to be
acceptable without the worry of a $4000 broken camcorder. I hope Sony expands
the Digital 8 format with a three chip camera and a PC tape drive to input
the DV to the firewire board. This certainly is an interesting time for video
work.
