Hello all,

Responding to my questions about 2GB+ capture, Anthony said:

A general solution would be wonderful, but I'd be satisfied
with any solution that can produce files useable with 3rd apps, even
if it requires buying all new hardware. The Digisuite might be
great, as long as it can export some kind of AVI or QT "wrapper" file
that would allow other apps to access the 2GB+ of data.

The problem is an artifact left over from older file systems,
which are incapable of having a file over 2GB in size. HFS+ on the
Mac and NTFS on WinNT are both capable of having much larger files,
and there are new options in both QuickTime and AVI which allow
making those huge files. However, on the AVI side it requires that
programs update their file parser to be able to use the larger files.
As usual, QuickTime programs don't need to be updated to read the
files, but Apple hasn't released the API for HFS+ to allow making the
files that large in the first place. The ideal solution on the NT
side would be for someone to just support the 64-bit file system QT
format for capture, but so far as I know no one is doing that yet.
