time code on Mini DV tapes

Hi All,

I just had a brain wave and wanted to see what others think. I use the
Sony TRV900 camera with the Mini DV format. The problem I encounter is
keeping consistent timecode so I can log my shots later. If you review
your footage, you can press the end search button to cue the tape back to
the end, but the moment you eject the tape, the camera "forgets" where the
end of the timecode is. A frame of blank tape will reset the time code to
00:00 partway through the tape, making logging footage frustrating.

My brainwave is: should I "blacken" the tape prior to usage in order to
preburn time code onto the tape? I have only recently heard of this idea
to be used on VHS tapes before recording apparently to increase the
recording quality. Is this a good idea?
