The default is to leave it with the codec it was in, thus avoiding
re-compression. But you have the option of specifying whatever codec you
want, if re-compression is OK for you.

There is an "Options" button during export that gives you all the options
for video and audio formats. Note that it is possible to create an AVI
that will play only on PCs with QuickTime installed if, for example, you
create a Sorenson-compressed AVI.

If you are going to be compressing a lot of AVIs, then Media Cleaner Pro
4 will do its usual fine job of compression, and output to AVI format
when combined with QT4.

Someone else mentioned Debabelizer as a solution. To my knowledge it does
not properly re-interleave the audio. Of course, they may have fixed that
recently...
