audio,v-o straight to mac?

Are any of you guys recording voice-overs straight to your macs ?
Is it practical, if so how, if not why not ?

I currently audio dub to a SVHS "slave" tape and then digitize into
premiere (I don't have audio gear of decent quality). I've found it a bit
hit and miss, but want to develop my skills, any suggestions welcomed.

I've thought about buying "Studio 16?" or another Mac sound editing prog,
should I go that way ?
