I used the microsoft 1 codec because that was best codec that could get =
the palette on the movie. On the mac you just attach a palette to the =
file, which is only used if the monitor is in 256 colors. These avi's are =
apparently restricted to 8-bit. They do look pretty good for 256 color. =
The indeo codec didn't appear to support a palette. I'm not altogether =
sure if the version of Toolbook we are authoring in would even recognize =
the palette on an avi, but there was no time to test it out.
The indexing was very timeconsuming, and different enough from mac to be =
confusing. I had to set the frame range in the edit menu, I couldn't set =
the palette from the menu, little things like that. I'm less familiar =
with windows, but I quickly learned to keep extraneous windows closed and =
lots of space on the drives I was working with. Unlike the mac, however, =
I could save a video file without being required to have a palette.
The movies havn't been placed in the program yet, though they all play =
well in vfw. I'm a little concerned because I set the datarate for a 2x =
cd rom, and I'm not sure how the authorware (since it's older) will handle =
the extra overhead. Well, the worst that'll happen is that the product =
won't ship and my project director will start a hateful campaign of =
vengence and turn the entire office against me until I leave of my own =
accord because I'm so miserable. But actually, I'm very interested in =
fish farming these days anyway.
