I may be out of my league, but I had similar problems with trying to
install an english version of OS 8
(I am in Japan) into my G3 . As I understand G3's start at OS 8.01 (Special
G3 OS) which is of course different than version 8.0. You have to install
version 8.1 in order for things to work (at least this is what I did).
G3 will not allow you to install version 8.0 and then update to 8.1.
