I enjoy your posts (and many others on this august list; Ben, Norm, Charles and Charles, Anthony, hell,... even... Sean...) so a little respect always helps to defer a roasting. Point-by point answers below:

They keep their original bitrate.

Hard to quote a PSNR (dB) number, but somewhere between imperceptible and pretty good in a hand-waving sort of way.

Currently the entire frame. Watch this space for future wizardry...but there are only 26 hours in a Silicon Valley engineer's day *sigh*.
