G3 Media 100 crashes (w/ audio window)

We just replaced a 9500 with a G3 for our Media 100 LX station. If the
audio window is open it crashes every time (using both v4 and v4.5). We
have tried every fix we can think of. Has anyone seen this problem?
(FWIW, we have many years of experience with Media 100s and own six. We've
used Macs since the fatMac days and we maintain 40 Macs on our network, so
aren't exactly newbies. However, this one has us stumped.)
