My short term goal is to use the Firewire configuration and my VX1000 as a
cheap way of getting full screen previews of my AfterEffects work. Right
now I have to settle on small screen software-only Qt playback. My editing
needs for this project studio are minimal right now as I'm still
Avid-centric.
I was thinking about the Firemax 2 card that will do firewire & SCSI
acceleration, combining that with a single drive (4 maybe 8 gig). I'm
trying to postpone an expensive heavy-duty array till I get something like
an MCXpress. Unfortunately I was told by a sales person at Promax that
there are unresolved issues re. the built-in SCSI acceleration on the
Firemax 2 and he advised against using it that way. Any comments?
Part 2 here gets into a new subject, second thoughts about Premiere 5...
I was hoping to get by with Premiere 5 for my simple needs but I'm
wondering if anyone has heard anything more about this nightmare bug I
experienced. One day I couldn't open up a project, then went to the
back-up and could open that! Scary stuff that tells me that although I'd
wish it were otherwise, 5.0 doesn't seem ready for primetime. The main
clue someone offered suggested that a large project could corrupt the file
or...
>file corruption bug which I've run into: putting certain clips in
>bins in your project window.
Innocent activity with a harsh result. I've never heard of this issue being
addressed or resolved.
