believe it or not, the template has increased to:
Project Name
Description
Contact
Status
Technology Creation
Technology Access
Metadata
Original format (eg. audio, video, etc)
File format
Initiated how, why?
Collaboration(s)
(this is for UC libraries projects.
What do you suppose "technology creation"
means? I notice no one filled it in on the
UC-libraries-projects spreadsheet;
so I'm going to ask.
As I understand it, descriptive metadata
is: author, title, publisher and that sort of
thing.
Administrative metadata has to do with
who did the scanning, what the scanning equipment
is, and so on.
It complicates matters that in standard
cataloging we do tend to include at least
some of the administrative metadata in
with the bibliographic record,
because we don't make the differentiation
between the two.

Subject: RE: [CALMAP:636] Re: improving the template for scanning projects reporting
I'm actually a little confused by a few of the categories...what is the difference between description and descriptive except that one is in the metadata? Isn't all this metadata?? What is administrative? Help!
* Description
write description here
* Status
write status here
* Hardware
write description of equipment, include ppi
* Software
write description of the software
* Metadata
*
o Descriptive:
you get the idea, right?
*
o Administrative:
same thing for this?
*
o Georeferencing:
this could be a yes/no, no?

looks good! basic info, enough for
persons to understand what's going on,
but not so much info that it takes
a relatively long time to fill in.

Hi Mary et al -
How about something like this: http://wiki.library.ucla.edu/CalMap_Digital_Project_Inventory
Technology Platform was a little confusing for me -so I changed that to Hardware, Software. Does that mean the same thing?
Thanks,
Kris

Here is the original template:
a. Project name
b. Description (short)
c. Contact person(s)
d. Status
e. Technology platform
Something like this would be better;
am sure you all can come up with
other improvements.
Template:
a. Project name
b. Description (short)
c. Contact person(s)
d. Status
e. Technology platform:
- equipment (including ppi)
f. Metadata
- descriptive
- administrative
- georeferencing
