[CALMAP:463] RE: cost of digital files, CHINA & TIBET 100k, 50k, 25k & 10k nat'l topographic maps; your estimate as to when you'll have funds?

Geoff Forbes has added some maps
    to the package.
None of us - except Julie, because
    Stanford's fiscal year is different
from the UC fiscal year - has funds
at this time, and I'll explain that
    to Geoff.

    We're estimating probably mid-August
before we can spend out of our
    collections budget.

Please let me know when you estimate
you'll have fund. And probably - again,
if you're like me - you won't know
what you can contribute to this shared
    purchase until after you have
    funds available. Correct?

I'm fine with this campus handle
the shared purchase, and do recharge
    to campuses involved.
Each campus will get a copy of
all of the dig files if you want them -
if not, we'll provide when your
    users need; we'll figure
out when we get there how your
    library prefers to receive files
    (?download from ftp site? removable
    hard drive? etc.)

         25k & 10k nat'l topographic maps - UC map libs interested

    Hi, Mary--

That IS great news! Here's the revised summary of deliverables & pricing,
assuming 5+ libraries purchase this bundle more or less simultaneously
(please refer to indexes sent previously):

    DIGITAL MAPS IN ORIGINAL OFFER:

1:100,000 scale: 138 maps. Mostly Sichuan; also Qinghai, Gansu & Tibet
(this includes 12 Tibet maps that did not come with the set that you already
    bought)
1:50,000 scale: 129 maps. Mostly Yunnan; also Sichuan, Hubei, Shaanxi &
Tibet (see second index for clear view of this coverage; and 3rd map for
    TIBET detail)
1:25,000 scale: 10 maps. Tibet (over Mt. Everest/Chomolungma; see 4th
    .pdf index for detail)
1:10,000 scale: 46 maps. Chengdu city (see last index for detail--by the
way, the area where two maps are missing is completely covered by the 50k
    mapping above)

    NEWLY ADDED MAPS:

    1:50,000 scale: 28 maps (incl. 4 that cover BEIJING): G-47-137-1,2,3,4;
    H-48-109-1,2,3,4; 121-1,2,3,4; 133-1,2,3,4; G-48-1-1,2,3,4; 13-1,2,3,4;
    K-50-137-3, 137-4; J-50-5-1; J-50-5-2 (a few of these maps have some
imperfections, such as evidence of tears in the originals, but still
represent highly scarce mapping and important coverage, such as the capital
    city)

TOTAL: 351 national maps of China & Tibet:

1 set of Full (uncropped) Tiff files (scans)
1 set of cropped georeferenced files (300 or 400 dpi/8-bit color GeoTiff)

    Price:

    351 Digital maps x $29.95 = $10,512 minus 20% group discount = $8410
+ cost of hard drive: $179
    + cost of shipping

Please let me know the names of the participating libraries and I will
following up with them directly in order to get their PO numbers, etc.
whenever you give me the go-ahead.

    Thanks again for everything!

    Warm regards,

    Geoff

Geoff, it was pretty much everyone,
    much to my pleased surprise,
even UCIrvine which has a small
map collection but a very large emphasis
    on digital.
I suggest you send me (and Julie)
pricing info and I shall send out
    to the UC map libns.
