RE: a question
Nancy,
Ellen passed along your question about the 043 field. There is no
specific project to add the 043 field to 'maps' records.
As staff work on various records, in the course of working on them, we
run as many quality control macros on a record as we can. Subsequently,
the 043 field is added as part of the records we may be working on.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Thanks

Subject: a question
Hi Ellen --
I hope your knee scar tissue procedure went/goes well. I wasn't sure if
it was to be last Friday, or the upcoming Friday.
The CCC meeting went well. I gave your news about the 007 and the
OCLC/MARC update only orally, and I think people understood that they
should await the written confirmations from OCLC. Also, it seemed as
though they felt good about you all considering changing the 052 to
Required if applicable, meaning applicable to libraries that use LC
classification, as explained by Paige.
Another question has come up, about OCLC's practice in adding 043 to map
records that lack them. Some of our members have noticed that 043s have
been added to their records, but some have seen records to which it has
not been added. Does it get added, and if so, when and to what records?
Is it a blanket thing, or does it depend on other factors? If you have
an answer to this, may I forward it to the committee?
Best, Nancy
