    Hi Virginia,

You can reach the National Map Viewer on the web at
    http://nmviewogc.cr.usgs.gov/viewer.htm

Type in an address or other features to zoom to a larger scale. You will
need patience to wait in between each click. Once you are at the city
level scale (third bar from the right) you can click on "topographic maps",
then "7.5 Minute Index". Refresh Map each time. You can also see the DRG's
if you click on USGS Raster Graphics Topo Maps.

The Index quadrangle names will be in yellow. Sometimes this feature
doesn't work. It was down one day last week when I was showing it to a
    student.

FYI, you can see the current streets draped over the old DRG topo maps if
you click on Transportation, Roads, National Road Dataset Labels (CENSUS).

Enjoy your project. Ask me any questions you may have about the National
    Map.

    Wendie

    Subject: [CALMAP:349] Today's dumb question

    Hi, folks

I'm working on a project in an area where I don't already have the list
of quads in my head so I need to see the topo quad index sheets from
time to time to make sure I have what's supposed to be included. It's
getting pretty old to have to go over to REI everytime I need an index
(not to mention the local REI only has California, Nevada, and Arizona,
which are not places I'm look for right now).

Is there someplace online that has index sheets for topo maps, ideally
as .pdf files so I can zoom the particular areas I need to know about?

I've googled USGS topographic quadrangle index with all terms having to
be included. I've also tried all the combos with slang words (topo
quads index), etc. I've done the same search actually on the USGS
website. No mas in all instances! ;~(

Thanks for any light somebody can shed.

    v
