Here's Kris's excellent summary of procedure, from
    her cover memo (below):
"It is time again for our AUL’s to sign off on the UC/S Map Libraries
Group Collaborative Cartographic Materials Collection Development
Agreement, as it is up for renewal. The current agreement expired on
July 1, 2007. Each signing library’s head of collections is being asked
to virtually sign off on this. Basically, you respond via email that
    UCLA is still participating.

"Please read the attached agreement and let me know if you see any
problems. It's stayed pretty much the same over the years; the main
addition has been general collecting parameters for digital materials.
If you agree to sign-off on it, please reply to Mary Larsgaard, UCSB,
and myself. Mary is keeping track of the AUL responses for UC/S Map
Libraries group. She is cc’d on this message."

    Hi Cindy–

As you know, David Deckelbaum retired last month. I attended the
UC/Stanford Map Libraries meeting on June 15, 2007 as a representative
for UCLA, where we discussed the Collaborative Collection Development
Policy and UC/S Cartographic Conspectus. You may already be familiar
with this as it has been in place for some time, 2002 being the last
time it was signed by campuses. This agreement in its first version was
signed in the 1970s - when Larry Carver's now wife, Janet Rudd, was in
charge of the map collection at UCB, and Larry in charge of the UCSB map
collection. It has been a long-standing collaborative collection
    development agreement.

It is time again for our AUL’s to sign off on the UC/S Map Libraries
Group Collaborative Cartographic Materials Collection Development
Agreement, as it is up for renewal. The current agreement expired on
July 1, 2007. Each signing library’s head of collections is being asked
to virtually sign off on this. Basically, you respond via email that
    UCLA is still participating.

Please read the attached agreement and let me know if you see any
She is cc’d on this message.

Something else to be aware of, is the "UC/Stanford Primary Collecting
    Responsibilities for Cartographic Materials,"
    http://library.ucsc.edu/maps/ucsmg/primarycoll.html

Each of the map librarians goes through the list and notes any changes
in collecting areas; there is also a narrative portion about the
collections that is reviewed and revised. Since UCLA has recently posted
the Map Librarian position – we are not being asked at this time to
review/revise these materials. This will be for the new map/gis librarian.

Thank you for your assistance, and please let me know should you need
    more information.

    Best,
    Kris
