Kathy,
All the atlases are in the open stack and Reading room in the atlas
section. The very large copy (50cm. and over) lies flat.
Most of them circulate for 1 day.
Damaged or brittle atlases are re-bound. If it has folded maps, loose
leaves or the inside margin is narrow the conservators would make an acid
free cardboard box for them regardless of the thickness and size of the atlas.
