    Kathy,

    Our copy lies flat in the open stack atlas section, and even though it's
    never been checked out, it's in poor condition (like yours).
    It must have arrived that way. At some point, we'll send it to the paper
    conservator for dis-binding, unfolding, flattening, and re-binding.
