    I've enjoyed reading everyone's responses!

**Currently only to UC users, and only for non-copyrighted
items, unless the user can get a copyright release. We help the
user find an email to make the request for release.

    > 2) If yes, is it self service or staff mediated?
** Staff does all work, for a couple of reasons:
    a. the large-format copier we have is definitely
    not for amateurs;
    b. when staff scan an item, there's a long-term
benefit; the scan is done to specification and goes
to our scanned-maps/scanned-aps directory, so the work won't
    be done again.
    c. when staff do the scanning, we know
    that copyright is being respected.

a few years back, we did consider getting
a scanner for general use in the MIL-users
area and given that the library had just
received a scanner for scanning microform,
we decided not to. but hey, we can change our minds:-)

    > 3) Do you charge, and what is your fee structure?
    **No charge to non-UC.
Currently we do only small-format scanning
for non-UC (air photos); the fee structure is
going to be up on our website by October 15
    (we've been scanning only for high-vol non-UC
users; starting 10/15,we'll scan upon request for
all non-UC). Fees are set according to the U's rate-and
recharge structure, which means we can charge only
for labor and overhead, and all fees must be approved
    by the campus r-and-recharge committee.
    Large-format scanning of maps -
    maybe some time in future..
